Public Consultation No. 25, dated August 19, 2025, is now open and proposes updates to the Technical Quality Regulation for metal cookware, complementing Inmetro Ordinance No. 499/2021. This is an excellent opportunity for manufacturers, importers, consumers, and other stakeholders to contribute with suggestions and comments on the proposed regulation.

Key Proposed Changes:
• Stricter limits for metallic impurities:
• Lead (Pb), Cadmium (Cd), Mercury (Hg) ≤ 0.01%
• Arsenic (As) ≤ 0.030%
• Total impurities must not exceed 1%
• Mandatory compliance with Anvisa RDC No. 854/2024:
• Sanitary rules for metallic materials in contact with food
• New required tests and technical reports:
• Impurity analysis
• Specific migration tests for metals
• Self-declaration of compliance with the RDC
• Mandatory warning for uncoated aluminum cookware:
• Information on usage restrictions with acidic or salty foods
• Updated standards for plastic components:
• Inclusion of specific Anvisa RDCs and Ordinances for handles, lids, etc.
• Adoption of the latest sanitary standards:
• Applicable to materials such as glass, PET, ceramics, among others
